The Queens County Farm Museum, also known as Queens Farm, is a 47-acre farm located in the Floral Park and Glen Oaks neighborhoods of Queens, New York City. As the city’s largest tract of undisturbed farmland, this site has been in continuous operation since 1697 and remains a working farm today.

Sustainable Farming Practices

Queens Farm is committed to sustainable agriculture and offers a four-season growing program. The farm features planting fields with over 200 types of crops, livestock, and examples of vintage farm equipment. It is a model of urban farming that blends history with modern farming practices.

Historic Adriance Farmhouse

The museum includes the Adriance Farmhouse (also known as the Cornell Farmhouse), built in 1750 with Dutch and English architectural influences. This historic farmhouse, a New York City Landmark, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building has been carefully restored and serves as a centerpiece of the museum, showcasing the farm’s rich history.

Rich Historical Background

The farm has a fascinating history, beginning with its ownership by the Dutch Adriance family from 1697 to 1808. It evolved from a colonial homestead into a modern “truck farming” or market gardening business under various owners. By 1900, it became the second largest farm in Queens County under Daniel Stattel. After its sale to Creedmoor State Hospital in 1926, it was used for occupational therapy and to grow food for the hospital. In 1975, state legislation transferred the farm to NYC Parks to establish a museum.
