Overview
As America’s oldest coin auction house, Stack’s Bowers has had the privilege of auctioning many of the rarest coins and most valuable collections ever assembled. Now, 83 years after we held our first coin auction, our tradition of success carries forward into the 21st century as we continue to sell rare coins and currency for collectors across the world. Our knowledgeable staff offers unsurpassed expertise in all areas of numismatics, as well as commitment to excellent personal service.
Over the years, we have helped build many collections, from modest in size, to the most valuable ever formed. We are responsible for the sale of the most valuable collections ever sold at auction — the Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. and John J. Ford, Jr. collections — which hold the world-record for the highest value collections ever to be sold at auction at the time. The Josiah K. Lilly Collection, a centerpiece of the National Numismatic Collection at the Smithsonian Institution, was also acquired solely through us.
